I spent the last few days all over the Copper River Valley. Going to Alaska’s Yosemite and eating fresh fish and caribou backstrap was a tough job but someone’s got to do it! World class views, and world class hospitality, fantastic, welcoming folks. Tsin’aen to everyone in the CR Valley for opening your homes to me, letting me stay, taking time to meet with me about all the issues, and for feeding me great food!
I got to drive into McCarthy and knocked doors all around the community, and got a lot of support. I heard the message: keep the road wild. It’s incredible in Wrangell St. Elias National Park. I went to the Kenny Lake Fair and talked with a lot of folks about education and the need for road maintenance (especially on the old Edgerton). I also knocked doors around Chitina, and a lot of people were concerned with road maintenance. Great hospitality in Chitina (thanks for the great visit Faith) A lot of great conversations on a wide variety of other issues, too. Environmental health, agricultural concerns and access to medical care were also big topics of concern.
Special thanks to Ruth and Cliff who let me stay with them for a couple of days and talk their ears off! Mahsi’ choo everyone!
